SENIOR SCHOOL
Years 10, 11 and 12
Senior
School focuses on the needs of the young adult, providing a
variety of programs to open up future pathways and opportunities. There
is a transition at the Year 10 level for students. They move from the
Learning Team situation to a more traditional model of curriculum
delivery. It is a time of goal setting and decision making.
Year 10 students are encouraged to develop and consolidate their
skills and interests. Eight Learning Areas are covered by the curriculum
with the core areas of English, Mathematics, Science and Society and
Environment being complemented by a range of elective courses that allow
student development in the Learning Areas of the Arts, Languages Other
than English, Technology and Enterprise, Health and Physical Education.
Such skills as investigating, planning communicating and evaluating are
built on in a more content based delivery to suit the requirements of
external examinations and moderation.
During Year 10, students make
selections to take them into Year 11 and 12; a process based upon
consideration of career goals and TAFE or University entry requirements.
A comprehensive counselling process is provided to help them make the
right decisions. Students in Year 10 need to realise that Upper School
courses may have pre-requisite levels or skills.
Year 11 and 12 course selection is
based upon catering for each student's field of interest and aspiration.
The courses offered in Years 11 and 12 cover a full range of tertiary
entrance and non-tertiary entrance subjects, together with a diverse
range of VET (Vocational, Education and Training) courses. Students are
able to access Structured Work Based Learning opportunities through
these courses which is accredited towards graduation requirements.
Warnbro Community High School is part of the Kwinana Industries
Compact of Excellence. This entitles the school to liaise closely with
industry groups and means that our vocational programs have the support
of local business and commerce.
Whether it be through one of our specialised vocational courses,
structured workplace learning combined with a Learning Area focus, or
through a more traditional subject combination there are many ways for a
student to reach secondary graduation and to leave Warnbro Community
High School a confident, resourceful and accomplished young adult, ready
to make their place in the wider world.
