MIDDLE SCHOOL
Years 8 and 9
The
Middle School program has been designed to meet the special needs of the
early adolescent years by grouping Year 8 and 9 into Learning Teams with
their own organisational structure.
Each team has six teachers with approximately 130 students consisting
of both Year 8's and Year 9's. The Learning Teams provide a smaller
supportive school environment in which enquiry-orientated learning and
strong pastoral care structures foster the development of motivated and
confident learners; laying the foundation for the academics and personal
success of each student in the important senior years and beyond.
Eight Learning Areas are covered by the curriculum with an emphasis
on core skills, processes and knowledge that orient students to High
School rigour and expectations. A wide range of educational
opportunities are offered through Curriculum Framework outcomes in the
areas of: the Arts; English; Health and Physical Education; Languages
Other Than English; Mathematics; Science; Studies of Society and
Environment and Technology and Enterprise. Learning Area coverage is
designed to ease student transition into Senior School course choices
and requirements.
