THE ARTS
THE ARTS
The Arts are a vital and all-inclusive force at Warnbro Community High
School. The daily time-table of both Middle and Senior School offers
many opportunities for involvement in visual arts, dance, drama, media,
music, multimedia and cross curricular arts works.
The focus of the Arts at Warnbro Community High School is:
To encourage students to find voice while identifyng positive means of
self expression.
Develop student appreciation for the diversity of the Arts and the
contributions it makes to our society.
Meet the ongoing demands of technological advances which will
offer our students the necessary skills for the work force.
Our rich curriculum creates a year-long calendar of productions,
exhibitions, concerts, talent-nights, clubs and events drawing
enthusiastic student participation and appreciative audiences.
Students are also encouraged to showcase their works in community
festivals and exhibitions. There are many opportunities for students
to take part in multi-arts projects and contribute to the cultural
life of the school and community.
Drama
Students develop skills and techniques in scripted and devised drama
works within a team approach. Students have the opportunity to learn
about the technical skills and roles required in the Performing Arts
with opportunity to work in the areas of stage management,
production crew, lighting and sound. The school regularly offers
students the opportunity to watch performances by touring
professional groups through incursions while offering excursion to
give student exposure to other theatres in the metro area. Students
who wish to further extend their skills are encouraged to
participate in an after school hours drama club programme.
Dance
Yr10-12 Dance offers the students an opportunity to learn the
disciplines associated to tap, jazz, cultural dance
and contemporary works. The programme is enhanced by specialised
dance training, performance experience in a number of festivals, in
school events and school's competitions as well as student
choreographic works. An emphasis is placed on students viewing
professional performances and works of excellence within the broader
dance community.
Visual Arts
Students are exposed to a variety of studio areas such as print
making, ceramics, sculpture, painting, textiles, drawing and
installations. Students have opportunities to work on common
projects with an Artist-in-Residence program and community Arts
projects.
Media
Media at Warnbro is on the cutting edge as far as innovation,
technology and creativity are concerned. In Media, students
work to understand the flavours of Media that make up such a huge
part of their lives - movies, television, magazines, newspaper and
advertising. With this understanding, students set about
creating media texts of their own. In past years, projects
have included short films, tabloid television programs, radio
programs and even a full length feature film. One of the most
important elements in Media is ensuring that student work is viewed
by an many people as possible - in forums including short film
festivals and feature film premieres.
Music
Students with musical ability or an interest in Music are given the
opportunity to develop their skills through a variety of musical
styles. Students in the Instrumental Music Program are placed in the
Anzac Learning Team. The programme consists of Yr8-10 Class music
with Instrumental tuition and commitment to the School Band
Programme, vocal ensembles as well as upper school courses.
Multimedia
Focuses on the manipulation of text, image and sound to create
multimedia works in web design, animation, graphic design,
infomercial and sound. Students work within an individual and team
structure under the premises of a client brief. Links are also made
with other school disciplines and the wider community. Students who
successfully complete the upper courses will have an opportunity to
be awarded components of Multimedia
Certificate III.
